EVOLUTION OR REVOLUTION – THE STATE OF THE RECORD LABEL

The rise of self-managed, self-produced artists coupled with the streaming revolution over the past decade has turned the music industry on its head. In this uncertain climate, smaller, boutique and independent labels are challenging the status quo once ruled by the majors. Where do labels – both large and small – fit into the current music industry ecosystem, and where do they fit within the new narrative of DIY? Is the label a dying breed or an evolving model?

Panelists:
Stuart Meyer – Sub Pop
Adam MacKinnon – Barsuk
Taylor Dutton – Eyrst
Adrienne LaBelle – Mint Records
