Music BC is pleased to announce our latest How-To Series: ‘Business Series for DIY Musicians’. Sign up for a full or half day of workshops featuring:

Workshop #1 – Royalties Overview with Stephen Carroll

9:30-11:00am (90 mins)

In this session, attendees will receive a comprehensive overview of royalties collection from someone who’s been on both sides of the business. Stephen Carroll achieved international recognition as a member of the JUNO nominated band The Weakerthans, and he now works for Manitoba Film and Music.

Workshop #2 – Contract Essentials with Lindsay Bailey Law Corporation

11:15am-12:45pm (90 mins)

The objective of this workshop is to walk attendees through contracts they will likely encounter throughout their musical careers, including Recording Agreements, Publishing Agreements, Producer Agreements and Management Agreements while pointing out red flags and explaining deal points.

Workshop #3 – Financial Planning with Freedom 55 Financial

1:15pm-2:45pm (90 mins)

The financial landscape of a full-time musician/industry professional can be both challenging and rewarding at times. In this workshop, the Entertainment team from Freedom 55 Financial will utilize their past industry experiences to help those in the music business better navigate income inconsistency and risk. The team is made up of advisors that have previously held positions as artists, managers, live venue promoters, radio promoters, independent/studio musicians and social media marketers. Attendees will learn how to build financial plans to help achieve their goals in an otherwise unprotected and unpredictable environment.

Workshop #4 – Tax Tips with DMCL Chartered Professional Accountants

3:00pm-4:30pm (90 mins)

It’s tax time! Our always popular Tax Tips in-house workshop will be offered once again, with DMCL beginning the workshop with a brief presentation on common questions encountered while navigating a musicians or companies tax return, and ending with breakout sessions with the team so attendees can seek their advice on tax matters specific to their needs.
